Pepperdine women’s tennis player Anastasiia Grechkina was eliminated in the round of 32 at the NCAA Division I Singles Championship on Wednesday. The match took place at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida.

Grechkina lost to Auburn’s Ava Esposito in straight sets, 4-6, 3-6. In the first set, both players held serve until Grechkina broke for a 4-3 lead. Esposito responded by breaking back and then secured another break on a deuce point to win the set 6-4.

In the second set, Esposito earned her third consecutive break in game two. Grechkina broke back to bring the score to 2-1 but Esposito regained control with another break for a 3-1 lead. The rest of the set continued on serve, with Esposito closing out the match.

Despite this loss, Grechkina concluded her fall season with a strong singles record of 17 wins and three losses. Earlier in September, she won both singles and doubles titles at the Battle in the Bay Classic and later claimed victory at the ITA Southwest Regional Singles tournament in October, which qualified her for the NCAA Singles Championship. This week she also defeated No. 9 seed Anastasiia Lopata to reach the round of 32.

Grechkina began her fall ranked No. 37 nationally by ITA and collected seven victories over ranked opponents during this period.

According to Pepperdine University, its women’s tennis program has participated in 40 NCAA Tournaments since 1982, including an ongoing streak of 28 consecutive appearances. Since 2018, Pepperdine has had three national runner-up finishes between singles and doubles competitions and reached an NCAA Regional as a team eight times out of nine tournaments played during that span. The team has also captured 33 West Coast Conference Championships—including an active run of eleven straight—and produced twenty-four All-Americans who have often advanced to professional tennis after their collegiate careers.
