David Fix has been named the West Coast Conference Men’s Tennis Singles Player of the Week, according to a March 10 announcement from the conference. This is the first time Fix has received this honor.
The recognition comes after Fix played a key role in two recent victories for Pepperdine. He secured a three-set win over Ethan Chung of Yale, helping clinch the match against No. 39 Yale last Wednesday. Later, at No. 33 Middle Tennessee, Fix rallied from a 0-4 deficit in the third set to defeat Eric Crivei and again clinched victory for his team.
The West Coast Conference also announced other weekly awards: Nikola Keremedchiev and Cade Fernando from Portland were named Doubles Players of the Week, while Manvydas Balciunas from San Diego was recognized as Freshman of the Week.
Pepperdine men’s tennis has a long history of success, including an NCAA Championship in 2006 and its first NAIA Championship in 1952. The program boasts multiple national championships in singles and doubles, with Robbie Weiss winning the NCAA singles title in 1988 and doubles teams capturing titles in 1984 and 1985. The Waves have won the West Coast Conference championship 44 times and have appeared in 40 NCAA Tournaments.
The team will return to action on Friday at the UTR Collegiate Championships at BNP in Indian Wells, California.
