Pepperdine University’s women’s soccer team had four players named to the All-West Region teams by United Soccer Coaches on Tuesday. Peyton Leonard, Tabitha LaParl, and Julia Quinonez earned spots on the First Team, while Tatum Wynalda was placed on the Second Team.
This marks the first time since 2021 that Pepperdine has had at least three athletes selected for the First Team. Last year, LaParl received Third Team honors and Wynalda was also recognized on the Second Team in 2022. For Leonard and Quinonez, this is their first selection to an All-West Region team.
All four athletes were previously named to the All-WCC First Team earlier this season. Quinonez led Pepperdine with 11 goals, while Wynalda recorded a team-high of 10 assists. LaParl was chosen as Midfielder of the Year by the West Coast Conference, and Leonard contributed four goals along with three assists as a defender.
Pepperdine won back-to-back conference titles for only the second time in program history and made its third straight appearance in the NCAA tournament. The Waves lost 1-3 in the opening round to No. 17 UCLA, marking their 15th overall NCAA tournament appearance. The West Coast Conference will introduce a four-team postseason tournament next season after Pepperdine clinched its last title without such a format.
“Pepperdine women’s soccer has been competitive since season one in 1993. As just the third head coach in the program’s history, Tim Ward has led the Waves to 15 NCAA tournament appearances, winning the West Coast Conference six separate times and taking his squad to the round of 16 four times, most recently in 2021. With 24 winning seasons, Ward has proven he can lead consistently with excellence, garnering an overall record of 320-157-78.”
