Four members of the Pepperdine women’s soccer team have been named to the College Sports Communications (CSC) All-District Team, according to an announcement made Tuesday. The athletes recognized are Karina Gonzalez, Jillian Medvecky, Kyra Murphy, and Peyton Leonard.
To qualify for the All-District Team, student-athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 in the most recent academic term and participate in at least 75 percent of matches. This year marks the first time Gonzalez, Leonard, and Medvecky have received this honor. Murphy was previously selected two seasons ago.
Leonard has earned multiple academic distinctions this season, including a place on the West Coast Conference all-academic team. She also secured a spot on the All-WCC First Team. Murphy was named to the second team, while Gonzalez received honorable mention recognition.
The CSC notes that last season fewer than five percent of student-athletes across all sports and divisions received this honor.
All four Pepperdine athletes will advance to the Academic All-America ballot. Results from that selection process will be announced on December 16 by CSC members. Pepperdine is among 38 Division I schools with four or more athletes advancing to this stage and is one of only two West Coast Conference programs—alongside Santa Clara—to do so.
“Pepperdine women’s soccer has been competitive since season one in 1993. As just the third head coach in the program’s history, Tim Ward has led the Waves to 15 NCAA tournament appearances, winning the West Coast Conference six separate times and taking his squad to the round of 16 four times, most recently in 2021. With 24 winning seasons, Ward has proven he can lead consistently with excellence, garnering an overall record of 320-157-78,” according to information provided by Pepperdine Athletics.
