No. 27 Pepperdine men’s tennis lost to No. 28 Princeton on Friday afternoon in New Jersey, with a final score of 4-1.
Director of Tennis Adam Schaechterle commented after the match: “Missed opportunity today. We had a great chance to come all the way back after losing doubles. Congrats to Princeton. They took a big punch of momentum, but they gathered and closed it out. We are excited to finish a long road trip at MTSU Sunday.”
Princeton secured the doubles point, helped by their No. 7-ranked pair Paul Inchauspe and Landon Ardila. The Waves managed to win one doubles match, as Edward Winter and Hugh Winter defeated Princeton’s Sebastian Sec and Aleksandar Mitric.
In singles play, three matches went to a third set. Ardila gave Princeton an early lead by defeating Maxi Homberg (6-2, 6-3). Inchauspe followed with a straight-set win over Edward Winter (6-3, 6-3). Lasse Poertner earned Pepperdine’s only singles victory by beating Top Nindunjianzan (6-4, 7-5).
The deciding point came when Mitric won against David Fix in three sets (2-6, 6-2, 6-3), clinching the match for Princeton before the remaining singles contests finished.
Pepperdine will next face Middle Tennessee State University on Sunday at 11 a.m. Pacific time.
