Pepperdine University’s women’s golf team holds a significant lead after two rounds at the Fresno State Classic, taking place at Fort Washington Golf & Country Club. The Waves are ahead by 24 strokes and are the only team under par with a combined score of four under.

Cal Poly is in second place at 20 over par. The average round in the morning was 77.73, with just two players scoring under par, while afternoon play saw improved scores with an average of 75.42.

Four Pepperdine golfers are among the top seven individually. Yingzhi Zhu leads at four under par after posting a career-low round of 67 in the afternoon, which was also the lowest round of the day. She had been three under through 16 holes in her opening round before finishing with a triple bogey and bogey for a 73. Zhu made five birdies between holes 11 and 17 during her first round and then followed up with a bogey-free performance in the second round, including an eagle on hole 12 and three birdies.

Eunseo Choi is currently second overall at three under par for the tournament. Choi shot a field-leading 69 in her first round—one of only two rounds under par that morning—and followed it up with an even-par 72 in the afternoon, closing out her second round with birdies on holes 16 and 18 to come within one stroke of Zhu.

Jeneath Wong sits fifth individually after rounds of 75 and 69 to finish even par on the day. Wong’s afternoon included five birdies against two bogeys.

Kylee Choi is seventh at three over after carding a one-over-par 73 to start, bookending her round with birdies on holes one and eighteen, followed by a second-round score of 74.

Grace Anderson opened with rounds of 76 and 78 and stands tied for twenty-ninth heading into tomorrow’s final round.

Two additional Pepperdine golfers competing as individuals— Irene Kim (tied for twenty-sixth) and Nishna Patel (tied for thirty-sixth)—are also inside the top forty.

Head coach Laurie Gibbs commented on her team’s performance: “The team took away a lot of positives from our two rounds today,” said Gibbs. “The course is a good test and it was great to have our whole team competing. The goal tomorrow is for everyone to play their best round.”

Pepperdine women’s golf has maintained its position as one of the leading collegiate programs nationally under Coach Laurie Gibbs, having appeared in NCAA Regionals for twenty-six consecutive seasons, advanced to fourteen NCAA Championships, won twenty-one WCC Championships since 1998, and produced fifteen All-Americans since 2000.

The tournament will conclude tomorrow with an eight o’clock shotgun start.
