Pepperdine University announced on March 15 that its No. 9 ranked women’s golf team will compete in the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational, hosted by the University of Texas from March 16-17 at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin.
The tournament is significant as it features a strong field of 16 teams, including seven programs ranked in the top-50 nationally. Arkansas, Texas, and Pepperdine are all currently among the top-10 teams in the country. The event marks an important conclusion to Pepperdine’s regular season before postseason play begins.
Head coach Laurie Gibbs said, “The team is excited to compete in the Betsy Rawls Invitational to conclude our regular season. Our players look forward to playing The University of Texas Golf Club, which is an outstanding golf course and competing against a great field of teams.”
Pepperdine enters the tournament following back-to-back victories at the Yale Invitational West and Fresno State Classic. The team has finished first or second in three out of four spring tournaments and four out of seven events this academic year. Players Yingzhi Zhu, Eunseo Choi, Jeneath Wong, Kylee Choi, and Grace Anderson make up the lineup for this event. Several players have recently achieved notable individual finishes: Zhu was runner-up at Yale Invitational West; Eunseo Choi won at Fresno State Classic; Wong has two consecutive top-10 finishes; Kylee Choi placed third at Bruin Wave Invitational; and Anderson finished 30th last week.
This will be Pepperdine’s third appearance at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational after finishing second in 2011 and ninth in 2012. The Waves are currently ranked No. 9 in The Differential NCAA Head to Head rankings used for postseason selection and No. 10 by Scoreboard team rankings.
Looking ahead, Pepperdine will have a month-long break before competing at the WCC Championships scheduled for April 25-27 in Fairfield, California.
