No. 16 Pepperdine women’s tennis team continued its strong season with a 4-1 win over No. 24 Stanford on Friday in Palo Alto, California. The victory marks the Waves’ fourth consecutive win and improves their record to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.

With this result, Pepperdine remains undefeated on the road this season at 4-0 and has won five of six matches against ranked opponents.

Duru Söke, Sonja Zhiyenbayeva, and Alexia Harmon secured singles victories for Pepperdine. The three have now combined for 13 straight singles wins.

In doubles action, Pepperdine’s Živa Falkner and Sonja Zhiyenbayeva defeated Stanford’s Caroline Driscoll and Monika Ekstrand at the top spot, marking their second ranked win this year. Chantal Sauvant and Anastasiia Grechkina clinched the doubles point with a win on court two, improving their partnership to a perfect 6-0 for the season. Collectively, all three doubles pairings have won their last 12 matches.

Söke opened singles play with a straightforward victory over Morgan Shaffer (6-0, 6-2), remaining unbeaten in dual matches at 5-0. Zhiyenbayeva followed with her eighth singles win of her freshman campaign by beating Driscoll in straight sets (7-6 [7-5], 6-3). Although Stanford claimed one point on court four, Harmon secured the overall match for Pepperdine by defeating Sein Myoung (6-2, 7-5), extending her personal winning streak to five matches.

Two other singles matches went unfinished after the team result was decided: Falkner was locked in a tiebreak with Ekstrand on court one; Grechkina had split tiebreaks with Alyssa Ahn on court two.

Pepperdine’s historical record against Stanford now stands at six wins in thirty-four meetings. However, since 2016, Pepperdine has taken six of the last eight encounters between these teams.

The Waves are scheduled to face Santa Clara next as part of West Coast Conference play.
