Pepperdine University Provost Jay Brewster announced on Apr. 22 the appointment of Sharon Beard as vice president for student affairs and dean of students.
Beard’s new role is significant for the university community, as it underscores Pepperdine’s focus on supporting students’ academic, personal, and spiritual development throughout their time on campus.
Brewster said, “Vice President Beard has proven herself as a remarkable leader during her 28 years of employment at Pepperdine. Her heart for our students and for their physical, mental, and spiritual flourishing on our campuses has been apparent throughout her Pepperdine career.”
Beard brings nearly three decades of experience to the position. She previously served as interim vice president for student affairs over the past year and spent 19 years as associate dean of students. During her interim appointment, she launched the “Late Night Lineup,” a series of weekly events that have hosted more than 60 gatherings since the start of the academic year, drawing hundreds of students each weekend.
In her new capacity, Beard will oversee key areas such as Community Standards and Student Employment; Housing and Residence Life; Student Activities and Campus Recreation; Student Health and Counseling Centers; Intercultural Affairs; Title IX and Title VI compliance; and the Student Care Team. These services are central to enhancing student well-being, engagement, and success at Pepperdine.
Beard’s connection to Pepperdine extends beyond administration. She met her husband while participating in a study abroad program through the university. In 2023 they co-founded Waves Church on campus. They are parents to two college-aged children who have attended or currently attend higher education institutions.
Reflecting on her appointment, Beard said, “I am humbled by this opportunity and grateful to continue serving alongside the dedicated professionals in Student Affairs. It is a privilege to support our students and to contribute to a community that is so deeply committed to their growth and well-being.”
Her background includes earning both undergraduate (Seaver College) and graduate degrees (Caruso School of Law) from Pepperdine.
