Pepperdine women’s basketball player Shorna Preston has been named the West Coast Conference (WCC) Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference.
Preston, a junior from Gold Coast, Australia, played a key role in Pepperdine’s recent victories over California Baptist and Fresno State. She recorded double-doubles in both games and averaged 18.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and 2.5 steals per game for the week.
In the game against California Baptist, Preston scored a career-high 21 points and collected 13 rebounds as Pepperdine won 69-58. She also added two assists, two blocks, and three steals in that match. In the following game at Fresno State, she contributed 16 points, 12 rebounds, four assists, two steals, and two blocks to help secure a 65-45 road victory.
According to the team’s report, Preston is currently one of five players nationwide this season to record at least 20 points, 13 rebounds, two blocks and three steals in a single game.
Preston transferred from Dodge City Community College and is averaging 9.5 points and 9.1 rebounds per game this season for Pepperdine while also contributing more than one block and steal per contest. She leads the WCC in rebounding this season and ranks fourth in blocked shots.
The next game for Preston and her teammates will be on Saturday (Dec. 13), when they host Cal State Los Angeles at Firestone Fieldhouse for Community Day.
“Pepperdine women’s basketball has made four NCAA postseason appearances in its history, having won the WCC regular-season four times and the WCC Tournament on three occasions,” according to information provided by the program. “With six All-American selections in program history, the Waves have also seen success in the WNIT Tournament which included a run to the Sweet Sixteen in 2019.”
