For Mr. Layton Spracklen, it’s all about teamwork.
Creating a culture of collaboration with his students, co-workers and parents will be Mr. Spracklen’s focus as he assumes the job of Assistant Principal at Santa Susana High School in January.
“My passion in becoming an Assistant Principal is for building these relationships on a larger site level,” he said.
He is especially excited to work at the secondary level. With more than 20 years’ experience as an elementary educator, being around older students will be different and fun.
“I think I really am excited to have my work life involving students the same age as my daughter,” said Mr. Spracklen, whose daughter is 17 and a high school junior.
Starting his career as an elementary teacher at Vista Elementary School in 1996, Mr. Spracklen has taught at Wood Ranch Elementary School and Katherine Elementary School, covering grades 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 6th. He came to the District Office in 2019 to serve as the Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) for Categorical Programs, which supports the efforts of English Learners and their teachers.
“I come from a family of educators,” he said. “Mom and Dad both were public school educators. Helping others and being of service to others has always been my passion.”
Mr. Spracklen earned his Bachelor’s degree in Speech Communication from California State University-Fresno and his Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Azusa Pacific University.
He’s an enthusiastic foodie who loves to spend time with his family at the beach and in the mountains.
