Cal Lutheran has been a witness to numerous love stories over the years, with alumni sharing their tales of romance that began under the shadow of Enormous Luther. From chance encounters to shared classes, these couples found love on campus and have since built lasting relationships. One alumna, Ariana (Sanchez ’17) Chavez, reminisced about meeting her husband on campus through the Student Support Services program. She recalled, "Danny asked me if I wanted to meet up for In-N-Out, and we’ve been together since."

Another couple, Karen (Person ’69) Jackson and Jeffrey Jackson ’69, shared how they met during their freshman year at Cal Lutheran, with Karen revealing, "He has ever since been my 'Rescue Ranger.'" Their love story led to a marriage surrounded by friends from their college days.

Jennifer Augeson and Chad Augeson ’91 found each other during a J-term at CLU in 1991, with Jennifer recounting, "My husband told me when we met that he would never move back to Minnesota, but here we are! We just celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary."

Brian Malison ’81 and Leanne (Bosch ’81) Malison reflected on their journey from a Sadie Hawkins Dance invitation to a marriage proposal on a curb, with Brian sharing, "And it stuck."

Kevin McKenzie ’79 and Lorrie (Bursvold ’81) McKenzie's unconventional meeting involved Kevin playfully stealing Lorrie's car, leading to a lasting relationship. Kevin humorously stated, "Sometimes crime does pay!"

Reflecting on their decade-long relationship, Teresa (Motta ’17) Blank and Kevin Blank ’17 remembered meeting during their first week on campus. Teresa expressed, "This year we celebrated 10 years being together and five years married."

Each love story is unique, with alumni like Wendy Weir-Olson ’89, MPPA ’11, and Jonathan Olson finding love indirectly through attending CLU. Wendy shared, "We had our ceremony at CLU in 1991, and I believe we were the second couple married in [Samuelson] Chapel after it opened."

From chance encounters to shared classes, these alumni found love on the campus of Cal Lutheran, forging relationships that have stood the test of time. As these couples continue to celebrate milestones together, their stories serve as a testament to the enduring bonds formed under the watchful eye of Enormous Luther.
