NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, California, has welcomed Joshua McCall as a cybersecurity data analyst. McCall, a former fourth-grader who once visited the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center and now finds fulfillment in protecting crucial data for space exploration, expressed his enthusiasm by stating, “I’m part of the team that protects and secures the critical data that makes space exploration possible.”
McCall's journey towards a career at NASA began with a passion for space nurtured by his love for learning and a background in computer science. His path intersected with an opportunity at NASA through the Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) program, where he excelled in the Robotic Competition. Reflecting on his experience, McCall shared, “Having some of the smartest minds in the world motivating and believing in you is a feeling unlike any other.”
Transitioning to his university education at Cal Lutheran, McCall embraced computer science, IT work, and leadership roles in NASA's L’SPACE programs. He acknowledged the support of mentors, comprehensive coursework, and practical projects that contributed to his growth. McCall's contributions extended to cybersecurity projects at JPL, involving missions like Mars 2020 and Psyche, enriching his experience in data security.
Continuing his pursuit of knowledge, McCall is pursuing a master's degree in management information systems with a cybersecurity management specialization. Inspired by his early career exposure at NASA, McCall aspires to become an astronaut and is actively pursuing his private pilot license.
