Sinusitis, a condition that is caused by inflammation of the sinuses, is one of the most common problems of the respiratory system.

In response, new and innovative treatments are being developed by top-notch doctors across the country, including Bella Vista ENT & Facial Plastic Surgery.

Dr. Glenn Waldman, a sinus inflammation specialist at Bella Vista ENT, addressed the fact that sinus issues are very common.

"Sinus disease affects people in so many ways and has such a broad impact on your life," Waldman told East Ventura News. "The technology advancements in this area have far outpaced many other areas of our specialty. There's been a lot of money and focus from the medical device manufacturers in this area, so the advancements are there. And they're really amazing. In the last five to 10 years, the technological advancements in this particular sub area of our field have really just grown incredibly. To be able to have all that at our disposal is great."

The sinuses are hollow air spaces that are located in the bone cavities in the head. Sinuses make a fluid that cleans bacteria and other particles out of the air that you breathe. The fluid is called mucus. These areas can sometimes become inflamed or infected, which can cause a lot of discomfort and can easily become a chronic issue that needs medical attention.

For those who are having sinus problems, sinus inflammation specialist Dr. Jeffrey Feinfield of Bella Vista ENT has a recommendation.

"Well, I think the most important thing is to see an ENT and try to get that problem identified," Feinfield told East Ventura News. "That's the philosophy that we have in our practice. We do not prescribe multiple courses of antibiotics as symptoms persist. We will diagnose it right then and there, and a balloon sinuplasty 90% of the time will fix the problem, eliminate the inflammation. We get the sinus functioning again, and then there's no more need for antibiotics, and there's no more pain and suffering."
