A group of friends from Cal Lutheran University has been passing around a jar of Skippy Peanut Butter since their graduation in 1993. The tradition began when Kevin Charlston, Rod Borgie, Michael Clarke, Eric Rutlin, and Eric Weeden discovered the jar at the end of their school year in 1989 with only a spoonful missing. As a joke, one friend placed it in another's suitcase during summer vacation.
Since then, the jar has traveled with them to various destinations, including trips back to their hometowns and even as far as Japan. The alumni have named the jar "Skippy Kingsmen," and it continues to be part of significant events in their lives. It has attended each friend's wedding and several Cal Lutheran reunions, including their 30th-year reunion in October 2023.
The jar is currently at UC Santa Barbara with one member's daughter. Its travels can be followed on Instagram under the handle @skippykingsmen.
